Pastor | Preacher | Shepherd
Hi, I’m Dustin
I have been in ministry for over twenty years serving as a youth pastor, college minister, and church planter. While serving bi-vocationally with a campus ministry, I helped plant Portico Church in Monroe, LA serving there for five years before moving to Birmingham in 2014 for theological training at Beeson Divinity School. I have been a member of Iron City Church since its early days and came on staff in June of 2016.
As one of the staff pastors, I oversee community groups, Men’s ministry, college ministry, and our residency program for aspiring ministers. I also provide pastoral care and preach throughout the year. I love seeing people grow in their love for the Lord and helping others recognize and utilize their gifts for Christ’s kingdom. The privilege of preaching and teaching is a great gift, seeing peoples lives changes as they meet Jesus in his word is something I love. Growing and cultivating a culture of community, depth and vulnerability around Jesus and his word is something I am passionate about as a pastor. I believe being rooted in a community and seeing the church transform a place is an incredible gift that I hope to accomplish wherever I pastor.
I am a relational leader who loves to cast vision, see opportunities and then bring people along to see those dreams come to fruition as a team.
I have been married to Tara since December, 17th 2011. She is my best friend, my greatest confidant, and the love of my life! We have two incredible kids, Daisy and Judah. Second to Jesus and Tara they are my joy! I love spending time with them!
When I have the time, I enjoy cooking, listening to or even playing music, hanging out with friends, exploring new places both big cities and beautiful mountains, and woodworking or really making anything with my hands.

Books I’ve Been Reading
-
I really enjoyed the thematic overview of the Old Testament. It was helpful to engage in in this big picture survey of the OT and how it connects to our faith as Christians.
-
Pete’s book has been a real vibrant boost to my prayer life. He provides practical examples of prayer from the scriptures and church history. I often recommend this book to church members but have also been deeply formed by it as well. This was my second read through.
-
I am not far into the book but have great enjoyed it and found it a great way to engage many of the questions people are wrestling with today both culturally and spiritually. Watkins shows how the Bible and its unfolding story help us make sense of modern life and culture.
-
Crabb is a Psychiatrist and counselor who shows the incredible value of vulnerability and authenticity in a church community. He provides vivid examples of how this form of spiritual community uniquely transforms lives.
